Kia ora whaanau!

Life at Orange!

At Orange, there will be community transmission of COVID-19, with increased risks to vulnerable communities, and pressure on the health system. Therefore it is recommended that:

  • If you have cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms call your doctor or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 and get advice about being tested.

At Orange we can continue to do everyday activities. There are restrictions to limit the spread of the virus and protect vulnerable people...But you can go to work, school, gyms, places of worship, restaurants and many more places.

Remember be safe, be well and be kind!!

Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro, nōna te ngahere. Engari, ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga, nōna te ao.

The one who partakes of the flora and fauna, that will be their domain. The one who engages in education, opportunities are boundless.

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, nau mai, piki mai, kake mai.

Welcome to the Kootuitui ki Papakura website. We are a charitable organisation comprising a collective of community representatives including Mana Whenua, and established in late 2015, to provide services for a cluster of schools in Papakura. Our purpose is to support whaanau and schools to enable better life outcomes for tamariki.

Kootuitui means connecting/linking or weaving together. The name has been chosen in consultation with Mana Whenua. The logo depicts Uenuku, the Rainbow God, as the source providing clarity from heaven. The purple koru represents Education. The green koru represents Health and the lavender koru below represents Healthy homes and whanau. All three koru connect/link to the universe through the name Kootuitui. The three waves depicted in the purple koru represent kia ako (to learn), kia hanga (to create) and kia tohatoha (to share).

Our programme is an integration of three strands:

  1. Education is an Outreach of Manaiakalani and provides 1:1 digital learning for students (one device per student) and professional development for teachers to build their capacity and transform learning environments. Teaching and learning is visible via teacher websites and teacher and student blogs.

  2. Health is the provision of daily school health clinics in primary schools with nurses and whaanau workers, and an enhanced health service in the secondary school which includes full-time nurses and youth worker and weekly GP hours.

  3. Homes: we work with whaanau to enable safe and healthy homes. This strand has been developed using a co-design approach to the design and testing of solutions, with whaanau for whaanau. Workshops and assistance are available for whaanau for Warm, Dry, Healthy Homes, Money Skills courses and Chromebook learning.

We benefit from the support of funders, partners and community organisations, and the commitment of the schools’ boards, leaders, teachers and staff.
